A charger for a traction battery is an expensive device.
There is no official classification of batteries for traction batteries, but all chargers can be divided into two large subgroups:

Transformer batteries - this type of devices for recharging is traditional – in the sense that it has been used for a very long time. Such a device consists of a transformer and a rectifier that convert the current from 220V to the most acceptable for a 12 – 14V battery. Transformer chargers provide a constant current to the battery, the voltage of which varies depending on the degree of charge of the battery. The advantage of this charger is its low price. Among the disadvantages are the large size and the need to constantly monitor the charging process.

Pulse memory - unlike a transformer, a pulse charger has a small weight and compact dimensions, because it consists of less bulky elements. The pulse charger supplies the battery with current in small pulses, and not constant – this allows you to charge the battery without unnecessary load on the plates. The disadvantage of pulse memory is the high cost. This disadvantage is completely covered by significant advantages – light weight, mobility, battery charging in automatic mode.
